"When the viewer steps in front of my paintings, the paintings that have emerged from myself become the reflection of the viewer."
Alice Yang is an artist that lives and creates between Eastern and Western countries; South Korea and the United States. Her work explores the similarity between the two climates, focusing on what both countries share as opposed to their differences and what that means to her identity. This is also mirrored in Yang’s education, as an undergraduate The School of Visual Arts in New York and studying her MA at Hongik University in Seoul, Korea.
Yang uses abstraction to combine both parts of her identity, on paper this presents within her choice of figures and colours, giving the work a dream like finish.
Yang has been an active artist since 2010, exhibiting between Europe, US and South Korea.
The Hook's Take: Alice Yang's works are light and delicate. They are a beautiful balance between gentle and intricate that radiates a calming energy.
