"Religion and political conflict are two reoccurring motifs within my practice."
Stephen Sidney uses X Rays and MRI scans that give a literal and factual depiction of what is inside of us to immediately prompt an internal reflection and a sense of vulnerability in the viewer. Any political themes found in his work aren’t to imply a political or moral stance, but through the lens of the X-ray, encourages a viewer to recognise that we are all internally the same. We are all mortal and fragile.
The Hook's Take: Stephen Sidney gives challenging subjects such as conflict, death, and religion a digital, scientific, and medical treatment. The resulting artworks are visually striking and perceptive.
