"The old masters have always held a fascination with me. The dark and dramatic work of Caravaggio really captured my attention, with his convincing portrayals of classic scenes communicating with us through the cracking layers of oil paint, even after 400 years. This inspires my interest to understand those techniques and experiment with different approaches using oil painting in my own work."

Max Hayden-Case holds a music degree from the University of Birmingham, studied oil painting, drawing and fresco at the Accademia d'Atre in Florence and is embarking on a Master’s degree in Renaissance Art History and Curation at the Warburg Institute. Max has been shortlisted by the NEE Art Awards for his works, which range from figurative, animals, and portraiture.
