Beth Blackburn

"The shapes themselves are a product of personal emotional battles, a process of processing life through the tactility of the clay."

Beth Blackburn is a ceramic sculptor and has been making shapes since university over 20 years ago where she studied three-dimensional design, specialising in ceramics. Having grown up in west London and moved to the coast 12 years ago, Blackburn finds daily country walks are a source of constant inspiration; the joys of the ever-changing sky, sea, and landscapes. Beth hand rolls every coil and pushes them together to form a larger structure that is then manipulated by hand, stretching the clay, scraping back, and often reworking certain forms or shapes over a period of time. Manipulation of shadow, light, and reflection is of key importance to Blackburn’s practice.

The Hook's Take:
Beth Blackburn's shapes change depending on the angle that you view them from. Each time you move the shape it becomes something entirely new.

Ready to hang:

At The Hook, a majority of our artwork comes to you expertly hand-framed and ready to hang, with frames chosen specifically with the artist and the artwork in mind. Artwork that is not framed is either a sculptural piece that is not meant to be hung on the wall, made from a material that cannot be framed, or due to the artist’s creative direction that the piece not be framed.

Please note final frames may vary slightly from the images shown.

If you have any questions about framing please don't hesitate to contact us.
